Nate and I have wanted to start our Photography business for a while now but life seem to always spring something on us to push our dream back a little further each time. We decided that 2012 is going to be our year, our year to follow our dreams and push forward with the new adventure of ours.
We decided that I would attend a workshop that would help help us to be better photographers and help us with a business that we wanted to have. If you know me then you know that I research everything before making a decision on it and choosing a workshop put me into overdrive. I found several workshops that were great but I couldn’t find one that was perfect for us.
I’m a huge fan of CreativeLive and when I saw that they were having a Wedding Weekend with Zach and Jody Gray, I knew I had to watch. I was mesmerized by them, from the way they photograph to the way they run their business to their devotion for each other and to their Christian beliefs. They were exactly what Nate and I were looking for.
I found out that they teach an In-Camera Workshop and they were going to have signups for it soon after their CreativeLive weekend. I sat at the computer waiting for the countdown until I could purchase my seat their workshop and good thing I did because the Nashville, TN location sold out very quickly.
Finally the day came to where I was to fly to Nashville for 3 days and to say I was nervous was an understatement. I had never been away from my babies for that long and I was nervous to meet new people who were also photographers. After being there just a couple of hours and having dinner with my new friends I became excited for what I was going to learn over the next 2 days.
Day 1 was about Shooting and Post. We learned about getting the photo right in the camera so we have very little work in post production. Zach and Jody had models for us to shoot and we used the amazing ExpoDisc to get correct white balance and exposure. The ExpoDisc has changed my life forever, trust me…get one. We also learned a couple new tricks in Lightroom, which I am new to (total Photoshop CS5 girl) but I am in love with Lightroom now and it has sped up my workflow tremendously.
Day 2 we learned about off camera flash, which I knew nothing about. I had just purchased my first speedlight the week before and I was excited to learn techniques that will set us apart from other Photographers in our area.
Zach and Jody’s In-Camera Workshop was amazing, I learned so much and I met some incredible photographers that I now call friends.
